The Rotary Club of
Ripon

Bulletin for November 11, 2022
Happy Fall! We've had some great meetings!
  • We took a field trip to the Thrasher in Green Lake and learned about the history and took a tour including getting to stand on the angled stage!
  • Hannah gave a presentation about the Netherlands and her life back home. She's been teaching her host family how to cook traditional foods.
  • Tom Herzing told us about being a survivor of polio. Rotary has made a concerted effort to eliminate polio entirely and the effort still continues!
  • Artist, Liz Miller, had an exhibit and talk at the Rodman Center showcasing her work. See below for a link to her site to view her art.
  • Noreen Johnson from the Senior Center informed us about the new plans for the center as well as current offerings.
  • Our most recent field trip was to Knuth's for lunch and to learn about Dave's passion for brewing.
Committee announcements:
- Rotary Youth Exchange. We have a second family that has applied and our newspaper article also generated some interest with other local families.
- STRIVE is taking a field trip with the students to Moraine Park Technical College on Nov. 22.
- Board meeting will be held on Oct. 16 at 10:45am at Our Saviour's church, 343 Scott St.
- Service Project. Our October service project involved collecting food for the local pantries. We collected 141 items! Thanks to Liz Nevitt and Don Bork for delivering the items.

**November Service Project. We are collecting items for the Santa Club. This collection will continue through December 13. Please bring in new socks for ages 3 thru adult and/or feminine hygiene products.

  • Santa Club helpers. Tim Lyke is organizing this so watch for more information.
I received an email from our former exchange student, Eduard Valasik from Slovakia, who received a card that was signed by members of our Rotary club due to the unexpected death of his father. Here is his email:
"I recently got the card you've sent to me and it really touched my heart. I can't express enough how much these words mean to me and how much they help me. Especially the fact, that such a great group of friends and family I have in Ripon is thinking of us during this time. I can't wait to see you all again soon. :) Also, with the holiday season coming up, may all of you have an amazing time with your kin. I've come to realize the hard way, that something as simple as just having a cup of coffee with someone is not to be taken for granted. I hope this message finds you well. Best regards, hugs & kisses, Eduard"

Helping with the turkey dinner
Bowling at the 300 club
Our club hosted the district exchange students the weekend of Oct. 28-30. We had four host families and kept the students busy! They carved pumpkins, had a bonfire, went bowling, had stone fired pizza, helped at a church turkey dinner, watched scary movies, and spent time with their local host families. The students that came were from Germany, Belgium, France, Brazil, Finland, and Japan. And of course Hannah!
Thanks to everyone that helped with highway cleanup! We usually clean our section twice a year -  you never know what treasures you might find!
Congratulations to us! This banner is from our club members' contributions to the Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation.
Citrus Sale is going on right now! Here is a photo of the new sample box that we are offering as well as the usual boxes of oranges and grapefruit. The proceeds go to help our Rotary projects.

100 Years of Flavor in Ripon
Rotary Cookbook celebrating 100 years. Lots of great recipes, historic photos, and a great slice of Ripon history. Curious to try Travis Nygaards pickles? Or Kevin Mundell's family brisket recipe? Or maybe take a trip down memory lane to view the products made in Ripon courtesy of the Ripon Historical Society?
Buying Holiday Gifts and Giving Back!
Would you prefer to shop online and give to charity at the same time? Here are some great ideas:
  • Amazon Smile has a program to give back to the Rotary Foundation when you shop. Either go to smile.amazon.com or activate AmazonSmile on your Amazon Shopping app.
  • Serrv has items from over 24 countries and 8,000 farmers and artisans for sale. See the link below to purchase items and donate 20% of all sales to our club. My nieces have loved the unique baskets and scarves!
  • Go to iGive.com to sign up and select your favorite cause. Whenever you shop online, if you go to a site that participates, you'll see a banner across the top of the page asking you to activate the giving from that site.
